Accidentally with purpose, an introduction
The good, bad and ugly journey into accidentally falling in love with cybersecurity.
I never meant to fall for cybersecurity.
It started as a glancing curiosity. One of our clients worked in supply chain cybersecurity while I was the lead project manager at a branding agency in Washington, D.C. I was intrigued by the puzzle of it all—how securing the individual pieces of the supply chain for our national government was still a problem that needed solving. I had assumed that was already taken care of by people far more skilled and important than those of us at a small branding firm.
But I was hooked from the start.
I went down the rabbit hole, trying to understand what cybersecurity was really about. What were all these acronyms being tossed around? Was it too late for me to jump into this space? All I knew was that after 20 years in project management, this finally sparked something. It felt like a profession with real impact and purpose.
Project management had long lost its luster. I was left feeling detached from any real sense of importance. What did I actually do—chase people down to do their jobs faster and cheaper, without the authority to make meaningful change? It became a grind. And it never seemed to lead anywhere.
Until now.
Now I’ve found my why.
Since stepping into this world, I’ve realized I need to share not just how I got here, but why. This blog is my accountability tool. Publishing my story—chapter by chapter, week by week—keeps me present in the journey. Too often, I’ve rushed toward the finish line without pausing to learn from the path. This blog will help me stay grounded, curious, and open.
And I hope it does the same for you.
If you’re curious about cybersecurity, wondering what else is out there, or trying to find your own spark—come learn and explore with me. I’ll share what I discover, reflect on the challenges, and maybe offer a little inspiration along the way.
Let’s explore together.
My story will show up here, yes—but so will the fascinating, strange, and meaningful things I find along the way. There’s a whole world unfolding around us. And I want you to be part of it.
See you next week—same time, same place, deeper into the rabbit hole.
